A Biblical Timeline Presents A Graphical Approach To Help Teach Biblical Events And Characters And Realities
In our weekly Bible study some years ago, somebody, who had been a Christian and worked in the local Church for over 15 years, made this statement,"Yes, but Abraham had the Law and so he understood about......" (they weren't referring to the pre-mosaic law) I wonder just how many Christians will actually notice the error in this claim. Moses existed some 500 years after Abraham and so it is impossible. I have since then put together a Bible timeline chart and explained more visually the time period of men and women and occasions.
Why do we get stuck in a rut of our favorite themes and feel good sermons?
We preach on a text from Lamentations and a story about Noah and a theme from the book of Zechariah and then the obedience of Paul or the humility of Moses - pieces from here and there, but we do not put it all at once in an obvious understandable, simple to remember, perspective with a capable Bible TimeLine including Church History as well. Constantly we are bombarded with new books, modernist ideas, a few of them perilously edging toward Liberal thinking, but if we could be instructed the basics of Church history, we then would not be so doomed to repeat it.
Let's us as tutors and preachers sew together the fragments of God's Word and His plan into a complete picture that our people are able to draw on for the remainder of life, to help them to understand God, His Eternal Plan, the role of the Church and how to better interpret the Bible to model our lives by.
It is not hard to do, and it's not boring if we are ready to put in a bit of study and prayer and fervor, and just possibly you can make use of a Bible Timeline also.
